It is about church and state, love and marriage, faith and identity -- and one man's struggle to dispel the notion that God's love has limits. Gene Robinson was the first openly gay person to be elected bishop in the high church traditions of Christendom. Bishop Robinson's elevation in the sleepy New Hampshire diocese in 2003 ignited a worldwide firestorm in the Anglican Communion, one that has become so heated that there is still a chance of a schism. Check broadcast listings on KQED.

She has recently been working on a three-screen video installation based on digital snapshots that she takes with her iPhone. Liu meditates on death and memory in the video through five seemingly simple sets of images: burning candles; dead birds and deer; Buddha's hand fruits; and cloud formations in the sky. For Liu, the images provoke questions of how we remember those who have passed and how images or moments in daily life give us notice of their presence.

Tue, May 21, 2013 - The End of Intelligence with Peter Coyote

Bay Area actor, writer and film narrator Peter Coyote is also a countercultural visionary whose ordination as a Zen Buddhist priest has led him to an examination of the limits of human intelligence. Though our applied intelligence has resulted in incredible innovations (tools, technology, science), Coyote is concerned with the unintended consequences of advancement: violence, war and destruction. Coyote discusses the power of intelligence to address social ills.

Reverse Rehearsals brings together six visual artists and seven writers (Dodie Bellamy, Terry Berlier, Victoria Gannon, Susan Gevirtz, Patrick Gillespie, Julie Henson, Kari Marboe, Pam Martin, Kyle Metzner, Jenene Nagy, Maria Porges, Michael Swaine, and Weston Teruya) who interpret and respond to each other's work in three separate stages of making.
