				      <title>Sat, December 12 - The 5th Annual Silent Film Festival Winter Event </title>
				      <link>http://events.kqed.org/events/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=10557</link>
				      <description>&lt;p&gt; On Saturday, December 12, at the Castro Theatre, the Silent Film Festival presents four classic movies with live musical accompaniment. This one-day, holiday presentation celebrates the scope and splendor of the silent era with four programs featuring live musical accompaniment, including the U.S. premiere of the superb restoration of Abel Gance&#39;s groundbreaking J&#39;Accuse(1919). Stunning restoration by the Nederlands Filmmuseum and Lobster Films has the original dazzling color sequences-tinting and toning! Gance&#39;s story depicts a love triangle set against the backdrop of the Great War with actual footage from the battlefield, rapid montage, split-screen effects, and expressionistic camerawork. The day&#39;s centerpiece is Buster Keaton&#39;s Sherlock Jr-one of Time&#39;s 100 All-Time Greatest and AFI&#39;s 100 All-Time Funniest, and an inspiration for Woody Allen&#39;s The Purple Rose of Cairo. One of Keaton&#39;s most technically accomplished pictures, Sherlock Jr., contains some of the most astonishing effects ever put on film. Also featured are Chang, a spellbinding adventure from King Kong&#39;s creators; and one of the legendary Tod Browning/Lon Chaney collaborations in creepiness, West of Zanzibar. Dennis James, Robert Israel, and Donald Sosin provide live musical accompaniment. Foley artist Todd Manley will accompany Dennis James for Sherlock, Jr. &lt;/p&gt;
