Free Community Cinema Screening of The New Black at SFPL
Community Cinema, KQED, Spectrum Queer Media and the San Francisco Public Library's African American Center and James C. Hormel Gay & Lesbian Center present a free sneak preview screening of The New Black. Featuring a post-screening discussion including Monica Anderson, founder of Spectrum Queer Media. This screening is an official partner of Spectrum Queer Media's The New Black Freedom Summer Tour, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer. Centering on the historic fight to win marriage equality in Maryland, The New Black takes viewers into the pews, onto the streets, and provides a seat at the kitchen table as it looks at how the African American community grapples with the divisive gay rights issue.
There will be an encore Community Cinema screening of The New Black on Wed June 4 at the African American Art & Culture Complex in San Francisco. Community Cinema is hosting free sneak preview screenings of The New Black in nearly 100 locations across the US in May and June, leading up to the film's broadcast on Independent Lens on PBS on Sunday, June 15 at 10:30/9:30c. Check listings on KQED.
